So finally we get to this park..... To get in one has to pay $25.00 PER person. So needless to say we didn't go in. Sad but true! :-P However there were some side trials so we could see what this gorge was all about! :-)
THE ROYAL GORGE BRIDGE
The Royal Gorge Bridge and Park are two of the most popular attractions in Canon City Colorado. The Royal Gorge Bridge hangs 1,053 feet above the Arkansas River, making it the highest suspension bridge in the world. The Denver and Rio Grande Railroad run under the Royal Gorge Bridge, along the banks of the Royal Gorge, which is a 10-mile canyon with a 50 feet wide base and a depth of 1200 feet.
The Royal Gorge Bridge is 880 feet and18 feet wide. It has a wooden walkway consisting of over 1000 planks. The Colorado Royal Gorge Bridge is suspended from towers that are 150 feet high. In November of 1929, the Royal Gorge Bridge was constructed as a one-lane toll bridge. The Colorado Royal Gorge Bridge is listed in the Register of Historic Places.
So after walking around and looking we got back into the car and drove through Canon City once more..... Off to the left we say this Abby... And there was an interesting sign by the Abbey! *The Winery at Holy Cross Abby* In-Ter-Rest-Ing.... A winery at an Abbey, this was something Shawn and I had to check out! So as we drive up there is a sign saying free wine tasting...Hummm... Curiouser and Curiouser.
The Winery at Holy Cross Abbey
Several years ago, some simple Benedictine Fathers had a dream…
a dream of a fine winery located on the grounds of the historic Holy Cross Abbey in Canon City, Colorado. Today, that dream is a reality, and the staff at the winery proudly invites you to share in the vision of those dynamic and innovative monks. Since July 2002, The Winery at Holy Cross Abbey has been attracting visitors from all over the world. Located on the pastoral and serene grounds of The Holy Cross Abbey, nestled against the spectacular backdrop of the Wet Mountains, the winery and tasting room are shining examples of what draws visitors to Cañon City and Fremont County.
It was so much fun! I have never been to a wine tasting. I have come to truly find out that I am NOT a red wine fan. I just don't like it, however I really enjoy a Rosea` or white wine. We ended up buying two bottles:
American Riesling
A blend of Washington and Colorado grapes. Fermented to 11.9% alcohol with a beautiful acid/sugar balance. Full of grapefruit, apple, tangerine & fruit in the nose and the mouth.. AND;
Wild Cañon Harvest
A wonderful blend of grapes from over 100 local growers, a sweet rosè table wine. Light & fruity, serve chilled or over ice.
They were both extremely good! It is such a pretty little place.... I'm happy that we happened upon it.
And one more thing.....
THE COAT!
So here is the deal, I have had this style of coat for close to 4 years now. While in Oregon I got a few compliments on it.... When I brought it to Germany I received a few more compliments on it... HOWEVER here in Colorado... It seems like every time a wrap myself up in this coat I have some one telling me what a lovely, pretty, amazing, coat I have. Where did I get it? How much was it? I have had little girls come up to me and tell me that I look like a princess. It's very amusing. So I wanted to take a moment and Thank my parents, and my siblings for buying me this coat! THANK YOU; Daddy, Momma, Katy, Rebecca, Colleen, Abigail and Jacob! I Love my coat then and I love it still! I love being able to tell others that my family bought it for me for a Christmas gift....
As always: Be Safe. Be Blessed and Be A Blessing!
Nice, long, post. I too am not a fan of Red wines but also not a fan of Rosea/Whites. Beautiful Pictures
